I have loved Nono's work since I stumbled 'into' it in the late eighties whilst studying in Italy. For anyone who finds it difficult or uncomfortable but who seeks an equally moving but more gentle experience through music, may I suggest Satyagraha by Glass. The music is of course magnificent but when the sanskrit song is added and one cannot understand it, you are left with the meditative journey through Ghandi's philosophy of non-violence. For those lucky enough to see the opera in London last year or New York earlier this year, I'm sure you know what I mean.

"There were hardly any consective patterns within voices - the whole movement of the piece came from the juxtoposition of sounds from different directions."

This sounds like a failed experiment, no offense. I would've
been wringing throughout the whole cacophony. And I really envy
your ability to dislocate or maybe integrate, or whatever
it is that this sort of thing takes.
I'm somehow sure that not all people in the theatre went to the
place you were, you only presumed that.
