It’s weird stumbling across a cache of photos. It’s like opening a chamber in the head and letting an army of activity out. A boyfriend gone. The face fresher, less lined. But a rawness and terrible sensitivity now vanished: a mish-mash of anxiety and hope, replaced now with something sturdier, more flexible.
Couldn’t agree more. Found some photos of my own a little while back. It felt like I was transported to a different time for a little while.
I love the picture – feels like spring already :-)
Jamie
I decided to check you website out after watching a TV programme.
Mate you seemed like a nice guy and when I found out you were gay to it made my day.
You comments on being gay and our Darwinian view of sex is spot on in my view.
I have a PhD in Palaeo and have studied evolution since being at Cambridge.
At 27 I am full out but there is always a part of my mind that thinksbeing gay can be a biological failure. But yes sex is indeed more than just reproduction – it is used as a friendship mechanism in many species – although my feeling can be so much more than friendship.
I hope this comment is not too nerdish – you just said some good – and all from watching daytime TV after going to a job interview…
Cheers, Jamie
You are just a fountain of data these days. Good to hear
from you.
This is an incredibly gorgeous and accomplished shot!
Does Alistair take all the photos published
on his site?
Yes, Emma, I do take all the photos on the site, unless they’re obvious a still from a film or
tvshow or theatre piece.
And thank you.
And Jamie, your comment is not at all nerdish. The whole miasma of discomfort we gay men feel
around our lovelives comes from this Darwinian misperception. As I said in that essay, sex is not about
having babies it’s about meeting people.
Alistair
Have you or have you ever been a member of the communist party ?
Thanks for not thinking my darwinian worriers are not nernish. I believe that of couirse sex was originally in our dim and distant past. But it has indeed take on many new and varied roles. And anyways being gay is not just about sex – I find that the face and eyes of a man are at least as appealing as sex. And the friendship between two men – I guess that is teh most appealing part. So its complex – and a shame that it does not seem to be protrayed in a multi layered way.
:-)
I watch you on a BBC program here in the U. S. I think you are as cute as can be and you make me laugh. Thank you,I love to laugh. Debbie, big fan in the U.S.
Like dipping a toe into hot water, looking at old photos, I find. But the something stronger is a relief, isn’t it?
What a gorgeous picture! Going through old
photos always fills me with warmth about
my life and roots me even more solidly in
the present. Everything we’ve ever experienced
has made us who we are right now. Love it!
